Scarlett sighed as she watched her brother head towards the lake. He spent a lot of his time there, when he wasn't with Rose. The pyro had asked her twin why, and he would answer something like, "To be ready in case of an emergency." The amber-eyed girl didn't understand how you would be ready for an emergency if you were in a lake, but she didn't question it. She had a feeling it helped relax her brother to be in the water, like hot summer days were relaxing to her.

Her eyes wandered from her vanishing brother to her surroundings. It was a calm day at the new house. Everyone seemed relaxed; it was as if nothing bad had ever happened. It's so peaceful... I wish it could stay like this forever.... She smiled inwardly as the others laughed and played, even Jayden. It's like he never went crazy.... Not that it was his fault. One of the many ways she and Sam were different was the way they say the teleporting boy. Scarlett wasn't too angry with him; she knew he hadn't been able to control himself, while Sam absolutely didn't care: he hated Jayden with everything in him, and didn't go out of his way to hide it.

Just another way we're different. It was almost funny how much of opposites the twins were: from their powers to their personalities, it was amazing how different the two were, yet were still able to get along. I guess we've just been though so much together, it's kind of hard to not go on without the other... She shrugged inwardly at the thought: the two could handle being away from each other for set amounts of time, but she wasn't sure how she would react if her brother had died...

Snapping out of her thoughts, the pyro slowly got up. "I'm going for a walk." she announced, smiling. She hoped no one took it as something was wrong: nothing was, she just needed time to herself.

She had walked a few blocks away, not really paying attention to where she was going. Not that it really mattered, Scarlett knew these streets like the back of her hand, and if anything tried to attack her, she could handle herself.

A scream split the air, causing the fiery-haired girl to jump and freeze for a moment, before running off in the direction of the sound. She ducked behind a corner as she heard fighting near the source, wanting to know what she was getting herself into. Peeking around her hiding spot, the pyro covered her mouth to cover a gasp that escaped her.

A blonde, about 5' 9", with hair the went to her waist, was fighting some large, black hands that were attacking her from an alleyway. The girl managed to barely dodge one of the hand's grasp, and Scarlett was able to see it was Jasmine Riddles, a cheerleader at Trapinch High School.

The hands retreated for a moment, before Striking out again, this time a gray-green color. Jasmine yelped as one grapped her, and Scarlett decided at that moment to come out of hiding, a bolt of fire clasped in each hand.

"Let her go!" the Smith girl screeched, hurling a bolt at the hand. It hissed as the two made contact, and a screeching sound came from the alley as the appendages retreated into the alley again, the one that held Jasmine dropping her to the ground quickly.

"What the-!?" The cheerleader looked around frantically, only to see Scarlett, hands and arms blazing. Her eyes grew wide as the mutant charged at her, and she prepared to defend herself somehow, but was surprised when the impact of attack never came. Instead, Scarlett stood at the mouth of the alley.

"Come on out, now, before I make you!" she challenged, much to the cheeleader's awe.

Slowly, a figure began to emerge from the alley. A small, skinny figure with glowing eyes quietly slunk forward, hands the same dark green, almost black, color as the ones that had attack Jasmine, just smaller, more size-appropriate. Another mutant? Scarlett couldn't help but wonder.

The figure gave a grunting sound, and its green eyes began glowing brighter. Before Scarlett could react, the figure had tackled her. Its whole body was glowing the dark green color, and Scarlett could feel it was like skin, but stronger, tougher. As she made the realization, the thing began attacking her. Its hands grew large again, almost as big as Scarlett's face, and began to hit her repeatedly.

Enraged, the pyro girl set herself aflame. She heard a scream and a squeal, and quickly extinguished the fire. The thing had slumped over, off of the pyro teen, and Scarlett watched as the glowing energy surrounding it faded away, revealing a small, maybe five foot tall, girl, maybe in her late teens. Her hair was dirty and matted, and her eyes were closed, yet she was still breathing.

"I guess that energy protected her."

Scarlett jumped and turned to face the voice: she had forgotten the Jasmine was there.

"Uh, yeah." she stated awkwardly. "I guess..." She just now realized a person she barely knew had seen her use her powers. So why hasn't she run away screaming?

The two stood in awkward silence for a few moments, before Jasmine spoke up. "Thanks. You know," she added as Scarlett's surprised look, "For saving my life and stuff."

"Oh! Ah, it was no problem. But, um, why...? Aren't you...?"

Jasmine laughed. "Am I still here? Scared? Nah." She laughed again at the pyro's confused look, and took a few steps forward. "Here, let me show you." She placed her hand on Scarlett's face: it hurt, she had forgotten about being hit. But, the longer the cheerleader held her hand on the bruise that had formed, the pain began to disappear, replaced by a warm, tingling sensation. Jasmine smiled and then moved her hand to Scarlett's arm, where a cut had made its home, and the sixteen-year-old watched in awe as the injury began to fade away under the older girl's touch, once again replaced by the warm tingling.

"Whoa! That's so-!" She stopped as Jasmine turned to face her, beaming. A large bruise had formed on her cheek, and the pyro's gaze fell on the healer's arm, where a cut identical to the one she had bore a few minutes ago was.

Jasmine didn't seem to mind the injuries. She just turned to the unconscious figure on the ground. "So, what are you going to do with her, Fire Girl?"

Scarlett blinked at the new nickname, then turned her gaze from the figure on the ground, to Jasmine, back to the figure.

"I'm taking her with me... And you're coming, too."

Jasmine simply nodded as the red-head picked up the smaller girl, and began heading towards the house the Milds now called home. This should be fun...
